The most desirable location to live in Boulder

Boulder is known as one of the best places to live in the United States, which brings many people to Boulder to begin with. Once you’re in the 25 square miles that Boulder consists of, it’s all about location. If you’re looking for a place to live and want to enjoy the best that Boulder has to offer, here are some tips of what makes for the most desirable homes and condos for rent in Boulder.

Trails and open space

The beautiful mountain backdrop of Boulder was recognized early by city planners. As early as 1898, open space has been designated to protect that which makes Boulder so unique. Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks have over 45,000 acres of land with over 146 miles of trails through them. The trails are very desirable for the hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners that give Boulder it’s athletic reputation.  Easy accessibility is a huge selling point for properties for sale or for rent.  Neighborhoods like Dakota Ridge, Newlands, University Hill, Chautauqua and Table Mesa are well known for having access to great trails that you’ll love every season of the year.

Bike Paths

Boulder is a very bike friendly city, in part for all the bike paths that provide an alternative means of transportation.  These multi use paths are used by runners, bikers, dog walkers, and commuters. Even if you don’t have a vehicle and can’t afford to live in one of the most central neighborhoods, quick access to bike path will give you a convenient alternative.

Public Transportation

The local RTD buses also provide a great alternative to get around town.  There are 26 local bus routes that weave their way through our city. Many neighborhoods such as Martin Acres, Tantra, Table Mesa, University Hill and Newlands have several routes that run through them, giving residents an option to leave their car at home or forego owning a car completely!

Walkability to Shopping & Dining

Another aspect that makes Boulder unique are all the great, local restaurants, coffee shops and businesses.  What is better than being close enough to meet up with friends with a moment’s notice for coffee or a happy hour.  Many of Boulder’s neighborhoods have great ‘Walk Scores’ meaning that you can walk to most of your errands. Pearl Street is of course one of the favorite walking destinations where you can enjoy dinner and drinks on a rooftop or find something unique at a locally owned shop. University of Colorado students find University Hill convenient for nearly all of their amenities from restaurants, bars, coffee, clothing and school supplies. Besides Pearl Street and University Hill, there are many local shopping centers throughout Boulder that may be convenient to the neighborhood where you’re looking.

Lose Yourself in a Great Book from Boulder Public Libraries

There’s a lot more than dusty old library books at Boulder Public Library.  As Boulderites moved into the 21st century, so did the library.  If you haven’t visited the library recently, there are some great features of the library for everyone.  Here are a few unique services to check out  for yourself at the Boulder libraries.

Boulder Public LibraryLibrary Discussion Groups

If you’re like me, there’s nothing worse than having just finished a great book and having nobody to discuss it with.  Fortunately our library has many different library groups and unique programs for readers like us!   There are library groups you may join based on interest including world affairs, world literature, mother-daughter and more.

Books in a Bag

Start your own reading group with nine of your best friends.  You may now check out ‘Books in a Bag’ for your group.  The bag is available for select titles and includes 10 copies of one title, background materials, author biography, and group discussion questions.  You may check out a bag for six weeks from the main library branch.   Check out the current titles available.

e-book Library

Did you know that you don’t have to buy every book you want to read on your Kindle, Nook, iPad or other e-reader?  Boulder Public Libraries, like many other libraries across the country have a selection of ebooks available for you to check out.  There is a separate section on the  website to search for ebooks available.

Nook e-Readers

If you don’t have an e-reader, you’re not excluded from being able to check out an e-book, or trying out an e-reader.  Boulder residents may now check out a Nook for three weeks at a time.  It’s a great way to try out the new technology, before you invest in your own!

Free WiFi

Ever have the internet knocked out at your home but have some important emails or things to do on the computer?  Bring your laptop – every branch of the Boulder Public Libraries have free wifi.  It’s a great way to focus on work outside of your busy home, or a change of study venue for your kids.
